Dale Edwards, Polk County Supervisor of Elections, said the opening of the filing period for candidates for county and state offices has been postponed to Feb. 10 at noon. Filing was to begin this week. The delay in filing is due to continuing problems with state redistricting efforts, Edwards said. The new filing period will be from Feb. 10 to March 2. In other county news. County Manager John Lewis said some county residents are confused about the county's intention to hire an assistant county man ager. The position, although not titled "assistant county manager", already exists. It was filled by Rob Moehler, who left Jan. 1. The new assistant county manager will handle the same jobs as Moehler - planning and zoning, economic development - as well as some new duties. The position title and pay was (Continued On Back Page) TRYON. N C 28782 St. Luke's Radiologist Leaving Hospital Staff On Friday, Dec. 27, Richard R. Gentry, MD announced to hospital administration and trustees his intention to termi nate his practice of Radiology at St. Luke's Hospital effective May 1, 1992. Dr. Gentry will be joining the group of radiologists at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. "My decision to pursue a career elsewhere is the direct result of pressures arising from changes in the Medicare pro gram coupled with the uniquely high percentage of Medicare patients in this area," said Dr. Gentry. Medicare's new Resource- Based Relative Value System (RBRVS) has been in effect for radiologists over the past year, and will be effective for all physicians beginning Jan. 1, 1992. "Under this new system, Dr. Gentry's specialty will experience one of the most sig nificant reductions in reim bursement from Medicare," said Tom Bradshaw, hospital presi- St. Luke's Hospital already ^P n aggressively seeking radiologists to continue provid- } n g high quality services at the hospital. Several radiology groups are interested in serving St. Luke's Hospital, said Brad shaw. Jazz Ensemble on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. The band was organized 12 years ago by Oliver Hodges, bass player, and Stanley Baird, saxophonist. Most of the musi cians are instrumental teachers in universities and high schools and have had extensive training and experience in jazz ensembles of various sizes. The 17-membcr band will bring back memories of the dancin' 40's when we all twirled and dipped to the tunes of the god old solid big bands. Vocal ist Mclva Houston, recently returned to her home in Mr. Airy after a successful Euro pean career, will enthrall the audience with her energy and style. The Special Events Commit tee of TFAC is sponsoring this event.
